Wire Jewelry Step by Step : Mother

Before I start the lessons, you need to know a few things.

1. The wire can not be too soft. If you start with the soft wire, your names are not

going to be easy to make them latter on. 28 g. round is good.

2. If you use sq. wire you need to pay attention every time you bend it because it will

twist, for sure. {In this case you need square nose pliers to untwist it}

3. Always pinch the wire from the back when bending.

Do not unbend (Go back to do it better} because it will brake

4. Make sure your work is flat and even while you are working the piece otherwise is

going to be difficult to do it later.

5. Get 15 inches of wire so you practice more than once.

6. Be patient, maybe the first few times is not what you expect but practice will get

you there. {My first one looked like a license plate in zig zag big and uneven}

TUTORIAL 3: "Mother" Pendant

1. Start about 1½ inches from the end of the wire, turning the long piece of the wire to the

front of the pliers; make a loop {one complete circle}.

2. Working on the long piece of the wire; pinch a little less than ½ of an inch and bend to

the back.

3. Press it down at the top, roll the top to the right just a little bit. You are rolling two wires

together (picture #1 in tutorial #1)

4. Grasp the wire at the top and pull it to the right, a little bit.

5. Grasp the wire at the middle, and bend it back and up, pinch a little; pull it to the right.

6. Grasp the wire at the top even with the first part of the “M” and bring it down; pinch at

the top ( you made the “M”)

7. Grasp the wire at the bottom even with bottom of the “M” and bring it up

8. Grasp it about half way from the “M” , bring it down to the right to make a hump

(see picture #1)

9. Grasp the wire from the back at the bottom and bring it up through the front

(see picture #2)

10. Grasp the wire at he back; on the left side of the circle and bend it to the right

( see picture #3) you are making the “o”

11. Leave the pliers there and bring wire to the left and down to make the “o”

(see picture #4)

12. Grasp the two wires at the bottom and through the “o” bring it up (see picture #5)

13. Grasp it at the top even with the “M” and bend it to the back.; pinch it at the top.

14. Grasp it from the back at the tip; bend it to the right.

15. Grasp the wire that you just bend, an bring it around the pliers and the wire; to the

front of the “t” you are making the cross of the “t” (see pictures in tutorial #2)

16. Grasp it at the back and bend it down and hide it behind (carefully pinch the cross of

the “t'” ) making sure is even and you do not see the back wires.

17. Grasp it at the bottom of the “t' and bend it up.

18. Grasp the wire even with the top with the “t” bend it down and to the front looks like

an “L”.

19. Grasp it at he bottom and bend it up, toward you and pinch it a little.

20. Grasp it in the back about the level of the “o” and bend it to the right, to make a hump

you made the “h”.

21. Grasp the wire at the bottom and bring it up; grasp it even with the “o” and bring it

down through the front to make the “e”.

22. Grasp it at the bottom and bring up, (grasp it even with the “e”) and bend it back and

down, pinch it at the very top and bring it up.

Grasp it close to the bend top and bring down (see picture #6) you have the “r” Grasp

it at the bottom through the back and bring it up

Congratulations: You finish the pendant: MOTHER.

Now; take the end; grasp it a little higher than the tip of the “M” (

look at the picture for reference) and bend it up, fold it back and around the

pliers twice, to form a double loop; then around the wire twice to finish it;

cut the excess in the back.

This is for the chain; do the same with the piece of wire that you left in the very beginning.

Finish filing the ends and carefully crimp the ends.

Polish it a little and Enjoy it!!!

Cut the extra wire in the first loop, make it look like a heart. Fold the wire to make a loop

to hang do it twice. Put it on the name.

7. Grasp the wire at the bottom and bring it up to make the “e”.

8. Grasp it about half way from the “B” , bring it down to the right to form a loop
(you made an “e”).

9. Grasp the wire from the back at the bottom and bring it up (picture #4)

10. Grasp the wire even with the “B” and bend it to the back.; pinch it at the top
(picture #5)

11. Grasp it from the back at the tip; bend it to the right (picture #6)

12. Grasp the wire that you just bend, an bring it around the pliers and the wire;
to the front of the “t” you are making the cross of the “t”.

13. Grasp it on the other side of the “t” and bring it to the back (make sure is
even with the front).

14. Grasp it at the back and bend it down and hide it behind (carefully pinch the
cross of the “t'” ) making sure is even and you do not see the back wires. (picture #7)

15. Grasp it at the bottom of the “t' and bend it up.

16. Grasp the wire even with the top with the “t” bend it down and to the front
looks like an “L”.

17. Grasp it at he bottom and bend it up, toward you and pinch it a little.

18. Grasp it in the back about the level of the “e” and bend it to the right, to
make a hump you made the “h” (picture #8)

19. Congratulations you finish the name. Now, take the end; grasp it a little

higher than the tip of the “B” (look at the picture for reference) and bend it up,

fold it back and around the pliers twice, to form a double loop; then around the

wire twice to finish it; cut the excess in the back.

This is for the chain; do the same with the piece of wire that you left in the very beginning.

Finish filing the ends and carefully crimp the ends. Polish it a little and Enjoy it!!!

Part 2 “Beth” Pendant with dangling heart

20. TO DO THE HEART, take about 2 ½ ” of wire and bend it in half, pinch it and roll it,

open the two ends. Grasp it about ½ inch and bend it down, (make one loop) grasp the

other side and do the same. Grasp it at the top of the second loop and bend it back; pinch it .

Cut the extra wire in the first loop, make it look like a heart.

Fold the wire to make a loop to hang do it twice. Put it on the name.

the back of the “A”. Hide this wire behind the one in the front.( It should looks like the

picture # 4)

8. Press it down a little bit. To clamp it.

9. Grasp the wire next to the tip of the loop (picture #5) bring it down to make a hump.

10. Grasp at the bottom (should be even with second loop) bring it back and up, pressing a

little at the foot of the first hump.

11. Grasp in the back the top of the leg you just made and bring it over to the right.

(second hump)

12. Grasp the wire and bend it to the back and up again; grasp it in the back and make

another hump. You should have a complete “m”.

13. Grasp it on the bottom of the “m” bend wire to the right and up; grasp the wire at the

top; make it even with the “m” and bring down. Press it a little. You got the first leg of the
“y”

14. Grasp it at the bottom bring to the right and up.

15. Grasp it at the top (a little higher than the first part of the “y:”) bring it to the back and
down; press it at the top and roll the two wires together a little bit. (you should have the
“y” )

16. From the back grasp the tail (wire should be in front of the pliers) bring to the left and
up to the right.

17.Now, take the end; grasp it a little higher than the tip of the “A (look at the picture for reference) and bend it up, fold it back and around the pliers twice, to form a double loop; then around the wire twice to finish it; cut the excess in the back. This is for the chain; do the same with the piece of wire that you left in
the very beginning. Finish filing the ends and carefully crimp the ends. Polish it a little and

How To Turn Scrap Fabrics into a Potholder ? Creative Handicraft

If you need a gift for a special person, or just need some time to unwind, make a creative handicraft. Crafting is therapeutic when you are feeling stressed, and it also can yield a useful or decorative item. Everyone has some measure of creativity, and with modern kits and patterns, a creative handicraft does not have to end in frustration.

If you have a sewing machine, you can learn to make a creative handicraft that will be a useful and welcome gift. Potholders are a great beginning sewing project that can be made from scrap material or unwanted clothing and a bit of double-fold bias tape. Here are the simple instructions for this creative handicraft.

First cut two 8-inch (21 cm.) squares of fabric to be the front and back of the potholder. Choose coordinating fabrics that match your kitchen for these pieces. To make it easier, you can make an 8-inch square pattern from a piece of cardboard to use as a pattern. Cut more 8-inch squares of any old fabric to stack for the filling. You want the stack of fabric squares to be thick enough to protect you from a hot pot, but thin enough to be flexible and able to be sewn through.

Stack all layers so that the outer layers are facing to the outside and the filler layers are inside. You can put a couple of large straight pins through all layers to keep them together. Now sew right across the middle of the stack. Sew across the middle again, perpendicular to the first stitching. You will have divided the square into 4 squares. Sew across the stack again from corner to corner, and again from the other corner to corner. The layers should be joined and sturdy now.

To bind off the raw edges of your creative handicraft, trim with scissors so that all the layers are again even at the edges. Open out one folded edge of the bias tape. The wider bias tape might seem to be easier to use, but the narrow type makes a neater finished product. Starting at one corner, line up the edges of the tape with the edges of the potholder, and start stitching through all layers along the first fold line, which will be about 1/4 inch from the edge. Stitch neatly and slowly, attaching the opened tape all around the edge until you reach the beginning corner. Cut the bias tape off, leaving 3 inches, (7 cm.) to make into a hanging loop.

Fold the bias tape over the raw edge so that the middle fold lines up with the outside of the potholder and the other fold is hiding the raw edge of the bias tape. Now, for best results, hand sew the binding down, forming a loop on your creative handicraft when you get to the end.

This potholder is just one example of a creative handicraft you can create if you have a sewing machine. When it is finished, you will have a useful item made from all recycled materials. Feel free to give this creative handicraft away or keep it for yourself.

Thanksgiving Day is a fantastic holiday! What a spiritual replenishment to take a day to chew over over the yesteryear about just how good God has been to you and your family, to give you harvest and protection, wellness and hope. To acquire the most out of this joyful affair, create some holiday crafts with your children. These days, Thanksgiving Day often gets forced out by Hallowe'en's eery ornaments and the lights and gala affair of Christmas. Youngsters love creating construction paper chains. To further decorate the house for Thanksgiving Day, let them make a paper chain in fall colors as one of their holiday crafts. Using 9 by 12 inch construction paper, cut the paper in half across the long side and cut the halves into one inch thick six inch long strips. Utilise a stapler to bind the ends of the strip into a circle. Coil the next strip into the circle and staple them. Keep on the process alternating colors of brown, red, yellow, and orange. When the chains are long, you can drap them along the ceiling or stair rail. If you don't make the door turkey, the children can write something they're thankful for on each strip of paper before adding it to the chain.

Google forms Partnership to help SMEs

The current economic downturn and its rather slow recovery progress has pressured Malaysian companies, particularly the 550,000-plus small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to find new customers for their products and services when faced with declining sales and financial constraints.

At the same time, 15 million Malaysians and over a billion people worldwide use the internet and search engines to find information on products and services such as prices, reviews and even where to buy locally.

Realising the opportunities it presented, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is collaborating with Google and two local universities- the Multimedia University and the University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), to offer SME Business Stimulus Package that enables local SMEs to harness the cost-effectiveness and reach of the Internet to access a wider market and increase sales.

Google’s head of online, South East Asia, Chariff El-Ansari says that SMEs should use Google as a sales channel in order to grow their business internationally.

Those signing up for the package could potentially reach 73% of all internet users globally, including millions in Malaysia, who use the search engine to find information on products and services such as reviews and to compare prices,’he explains.

The offer is part of a Google’s campaign to get more business onto its search based marketing platform which currently dominates the market and is also being rolled out in Thailand and Singapore.

MITI secretary general Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat says that representing 99% of all business in Malaysia, SMEs are the backbone of the nation’s economy.

“The current economic situation warrants that our SMEs enhance their capabilities and try new ways to find new customers locally and overseas through the internet. And this new package is very much in line with our mission to promote international trade and develop industrial activities to enhance Malaysia’s economic growth,’ he adds.

So... you've been crafting for a while... and so many people have asked you how you do that craft that you're considering putting on a workshop? Perhaps your local craft shop has an interest in you coming in to demonstrate your craft? Here are some things to consider...

Steps

Think through your needs. You will need space, supplies, a method of communicating so that everyone can hear, good lighting, comfortable room, etc.
Plan your presentation. Make a lesson plan of sorts... what will you say? What order will you present it in? How will you make your presentation interesting and easy to remember?
Register the participants in some way... either by paying for the class or by RSVP. This will allow you to get a handle on how many people to plan for and how much you will need in the way of supplies and elbow room. This also gives you contact information for each participant so you will be able to follow up later if you want.
Arrange for space. If you have a large number of potential participants and space is at a premium, you could do several smaller classes instead of one larger one. On the other hand, if you have a large room, you may need some sort of public address system so that everyone can hear.
Arrange for supplies and make detailed lists of supplies necessary to do this craft. Nothing is so small that it does not matter. Things like pins, needles, measuring tape etc. can make or break the class.
Space chairs and tables comfortably. Too few tables for too many people leads to frustration for both you and your students.
Anticipate as many needs as you can... and make arrangements for them. The more thinking you do in advance, the less apologizing you will do during and after the class.
Recruit enough helpers. If the group is over 5 people, you'll need assistants who can help each participant individually with their projects.

Tips

If the materials are costly, have participants either purchase their own supplies or pay for them up front when they register. Not enough materials is a major frustration and time waster.
It is better to have too many supplies left over than not enough. If you must err, err on the generous side.

Steps

Bend the string in half. Bend it so that there is a loop at the top, then insert the key ring where the loop is.
Put one end of the string though the hole of the bead. Put the other end though the same hole, so that it comes out the opposite side.
Hold both ends and pull the strings so that the bead moves up to the key ring.
Repeat step two and three until you have the number of beads that you wanted you may put one knot at end if you want.

Having a digital camera in my possession helped me to share my personalized keychains with all my friends.

It’s a mind-numbing task to buy your first digital camera. We can never be too sure whether we will be satisfied with it or not. So, when I went to buy my first digital camera for my personalized keychain craft business, I read a lot of user reviews for cameras that were within my budget.

One of the things that I wanted in my first Digital Camera, was that the digital camera should be one of the latest available in the market. I looked for those that has been heavily advertised and has been the talk of the ‘digital camera’ enthusiasts…The more the merrier. Well, hmm..this gave me a sense of ‘satisfaction’ .

Another thing that I considered when I went searching for the right camera was that it needs to look good, cute and funky and more importantly it needs to take good pictures. I also wanted a wide screen, with more than 5 mega pixel.

Size was also one of the main criteria that I was looking for in my new camera. I wanted a small and compact size camera. I wanted a digital camera that I can put in my pocket or hang it by a string in my neck. I was looking for small, cute and funky digital camera but with the best features that my budget allows me.

I bought my camera for RM1200++ and used it mainly to snap pictures of my personalized keychain, wirename keychain. The digital camera needs to be easy to use and has a simple system so that I can snap pictures quickly. However, I wasn’t worried about getting a digital camera with advanced system; every digital camera comes with a manual. I am a fast learner!

Last but not least, I was looking for a digital camera with an affordable price tag. The price was RM1200++, bought it with my girlfriend. We shared the cost to buy SONY CYBERSHOT T-20 (BLACK).

Since then my personalized keychains has reached so many people using the power of the internet.

Keychains are those little things that you see hanging on the wall with short chain used to tie together sets of keys or other items. Sometimes it can be seen on a school bag, on a handbags, sometimes you can see this hanging on somebody’s belt i.e. security guard, a janitor, shop owner, car owner, prison officer and .

Somehow I wondered who created this thing called “keychains”. Was it a trend or a necessity in the beginning?Who came up with this keychain ideas?

Come to think about it, I think that the people using them wants to make sure that their keys will be with them and would like to make sure that they will not lose their keychain by accident.

How many people actually had lost their keys before? I have...at least a few times.

Everyone uses keychains. I am certain that everyone in the modern society uses at least 1 keychain and brings it with them wherever they go.

I was brought up exposed to TV promotions and I realized that many times keychains are used to promote business and companies. Usually these companies will give away free keychain but these keychains usually will carry the company’s logo, brand name, and contact info.

There are so many types, sizes, colours, and shapes used as keychains. However, people nowadays tend to use keychains in their brand building. One of the cheapest way to build brands. Giving away free keychains is a trend nowadays because during the last few years, I see that more and more companies are giving away FREE keychains.

In the 1950s and 1960s with the development of plastic manufacturing method promotional items including keychains turn out to be more unique. Businesses could place their names on promotional keychains that were three dimensional for a reduced amount price than the normal metal keychains.

Keychains are small and inexpensive enough to become promotional items for bigger national companies that might provide them out by the millions. For example, with the commence of a new movie or television show, those companies might partner with food companies to provide a character keychain in each box of cereal etc.

In this last few years, I also see that keychains are more personalized. So many kiosk are selling keychains nowadays. Some of the unique keychain that I’d seen were a rice keychain. Name on Rice Keychain. This keychains come with a tempered steel key ring and a glass trinket with a grain of rice preserved in magnifying oil. We can write a message or name on this little rice! Some can inscribe up to 10 characters on each side of the rice.

This keychain is a Highly collectible item.

That’s how I came up with the idea of turning this uniqe wirename jewelery idea into my own buy bending it into keychains.What if they can have they phone numbers on the keychains ? I think this will lessen the accidental keychain loss.

said one of my friend who saw my wirename

keychains and was impressed with my new

found 'talents'.

What he didn't know was that I spent hours

learning to bend wires into keychains.

At first I was just doing it as a hobby but it

turns out to be my main 'niche' online.

People always said that when we are doing

something that we love, we will never 'work'

in our lifetime.

Is it true?

Some people thinks that 'work' is the hardest

things to do, work involve pain and sweat.

It involves our whole being.

Actually, It becomes the hardest things to do

when our mind and hearts are not into it.

Truth remains...as a man thinketh ,so is he.

The reason why many people don't like work

is because it involves pain.

People don't like pain.

They like to do it 'easy'.

Personally, I don't like the idea of working

hard too. I will do it but only if I don't have

a choice. However, although I said that I

don't like working hard, I was surprised at myself.

Why?

Because I found that I was working so hard

nowadays. I was working hard to find the

easiest ways to do things and if possible effortlessly.

Many of my 'teacher' online had shared

their ideas about 'LEVERAGE"

How to work less but make more money?

I discovered that the main reason why

we may not earn as much sales as our

competitors is that we don’t leverage enough.

Leverage is “ putting the efforts of 100’s

so they can help you push you forward to

After doing my own research online,

I discovered that most wirename crafters

are doing wirename jewelery like earings,

rings, bangles, necklace ,name pin and etc.

But I'd never seen any wirename keychain.

So That was it! I found it..eureka!!=)

I got it. I shall make wirename keychain.

People will be able to carry it with them

most of their time. And I will offer not only

name keychains but mobile phone numbers

as well.

Some people lost their sets of keys more often

than some people. So by having their names

and mobile phone numbers in a form of keychain tag

with their keys, it will increase the chances

that they will get their keys back if they lost it.

I decided earlier that this will not be a 24/7 undertaking.

I don't have to quit my job that I have now. By the way,

the job that I am doing now is a CALLING.

However, regardless of our circumstances,

starting a part-time business is a good fit.

I started my online craft business selling

keychains because:

2. I would like to see my ideas works

3. I got some extra times and a laptop

with internet connection

4. I'd like to find a way that the whole youth group,

from the church-could work together doing

something with their hands and creativity.

No...joking. He is giving his life's message. Very Inspiring!

Rocky is one of my favourite movie. In this movie, the climax was , I think, was when Rocky's son went to see him and told him that his dad doesn't care about his feeling, and that his son Robert felt ashame and hurt because his 'old' dad is fighting a much younger boxer champion.

After his son finished pouring out his feelings to his dad,Rocky started his speech. It resonate well with me so much so that I wanted to put it up here in my blog.

Rocky: I'd hold you up to say to your mother, "this kid's gonna be the best kid in the world. This kid's gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew."

And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great just watching you, every day was like a privilige. Then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world, and you did. But somewhere along the line, you changed.

You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know.

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.

But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth.

But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that! I'm always gonna love you no matter what.

No matter what happens. You're my son and you're my blood. You're the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain't gonna have a life. Don't forget to visit your mother.

Internet Marketing Business

Internet marketing business: Have you ever heard about internet marketing? Ever thought of selling online? if yes, then what is the biggest question(s) that you are facing? Are you confused? or do you know exactly what to do?

4. You need to keep these to account apart. Your business account and your own personal account. In the beginning, this will not be so much of a problem. However, when you’re expanding and getting lots of orders..Sooner or later you will have to deal with taxes.

5. You need to find a suitable place to work. Make sure that it fits your needs in terms of safety, spaces, and viability. I started at home, from my rental room.

Commissions vs Ready Mades Craft

“Do you only sell things that are already made and finished or do you also sell to order? I sell on ebay etsy and my website and sell what I have made but I wonder if people are looking for something that I haven’t had time to re-stock and if I have then lost a customer because the item wasn’t there? Hhmmm now there’s a long question!!”

Good question! How do you decide what percentage of your craft items should be ready made, and what percentage should be commissions? In this post I’ll look at some factors that should help you to decide whether you should go down the commissions route or the ready made route, or both!

Ready Mades

Advantages of Ready Made:

* Once you get into the swing of the production process for your craft item you can make your items in a shorter amount of time, and you can become expert in the various making processes. For example, in bag making you can cut all of the fabric pieces (bleuurghhh! not my favourite part) on one day, sew the bags the next day, and add any finishing touches the day after that. The faster you can make your craft items the faster you can make more, and the less you will need to charge for your time.

* It much easier to plan for ready mades. You know what materials you will need for your craft items so you can buy in bulk and save money, you will also have a better idea as to how long it will take to produce your craft items.

* You have total freedom to make your items out of whatever materials you choose. For instance, if you happen upon a bargain box of yummy vintage buttons (I’ll be a bit jealous) you can use them as lovely trims, or make cute jewelry etc. and you’ll have saved some money in the process. You are not restricted in the same way as a commission in that you can make what you want out of whatever you want.

* You’ll have inventory to sell at markets, or on your site. In my experience, most customers are not looking to spend much time or effort in making a decision on what to buy. If there is something that is available now, pretty, and reasonably priced there is a good chance that it will sell much faster than a commission.

Disadvantages of Ready Mades:

* You need to be pretty savvy when it comes to deciding what to make. You should do regular research to get a feel of what is hot in the craft world. I always, always say make what you love, with love, and in your own style, but be aware of what your competition is doing. This way you can offer something different, something cheaper, something more exclusive, you can make more/make fewer of an item, etc. etc etc. By doing this you’ll avoid making lots of inventory that will hang around glaring at from your store cupboards (yep, we’ve all been there!).

* We’re all creative souls (you and I) and more likely than not we don’t like having to make the same thing again and again….yawn (even if it sells like hot cakes!)

* Ready mades can be time consuming in their way own too. Even though it take less time to produce ready mades; you are making more of them and this eats time (time that could be spent on commission work).

Commissions

Advantages of Commissions:

* You get to work closely with your customer and you will be able to tailor your craft item to their needs, this way you are making the VERY thing that your customer is looking for.

* You can arrange for a deposit to be paid in advance which can help toward the cost of materials.

* Because you get to work more closely with the customer you get a chance to form a nice relationship which will hopefully result in further commissions from word of mouth recommendation.

* Commission work can be more flamboyant and intricate, and hopefully more fun to make. These one-off designs will also be a better show-case for your skills. Therefore it’s a good idea to take a few good shots (with your customer’s permission) of these commission items to put on your website/portfolio to show other customers just what you can do!

* Depending on your customers needs, the craft item can be made from more exclusive materials, which again can be more fun to use and will result in a more exclusive craft item that would look great on your website/portfolio.

Disadvantages of Commissions:

* Because commissions are sometimes more complex designs, or they may use materials you are unfamiliar with, or techniques you haven’t used before they can be more time consuming to produce. This can be difficult if you are charging for time, (or time is in short supply…err…what the heck am I talking about? Time is always in short supply?!!??).

* Because commissions are often more time consuming, you may prefer not to charge for time (unless you are pretty well known). This means that you may make less from some commission items.

Conclusion:

So which is better; Commissions or Ready Mades? Personally, I think that both of them are important to your craft business. Commissions are great for making super duper fancy craft pieces, these pieces should be recorded and put on your site or portfolio. Commissions are a great way to go to town, and show others the full extent of your talents. Despite the fact that commissions are time hungry (and you may make less from commissions) they are often a good source of further work. I have made the all of purses for bridesmaids for quite a few weddings (which is REALLY stressful, but great for business because if your yummy purse is seen at a wedding by another slightly jealous lady…yep, you guessed it, more work for you!).

Ready Mades can be more your bread and butter items. If you don’t have inventory to sell then you don’t have a craft business (unless you are fortunate enough to be able to rely solely on a steady stream of commissions…which lets face it most of us aren’t). Ready Mades are more economical to produce in terms of time and cost of materials. Therefore, you can sell them for less, which means they will attract more customers. That said, you have to be a bit smart about what to make by spending some time in researching the craft world, don’t just go off and produce loads of a craft item just because you love it…

Enjoy the above video? I am yet to make my first animal sculpture. All these while I've been bending wirenames specifically keychains, jewelery, table decorations, wire tree, handphone dangles, wirename pin,earings but never animal sculpture.

I think that I will start learning animal sculpture(thanks to this youtube video) and from here I will learn how to bend a piano, guitar, drum, bass, or anything that comes to mind:-)

How To Upload Your Crafts Photos In Ebay

Use a Good Photo or No Photo!

Yes, it’s that serious. YOU GOTTA HAVE A GOOD PICTURE OR PEOPLE CAN’T SEE ALL THE DETAILS AND THEY WON’T BUY. Good photos sell jewelry and bad photos just take up space.

In the past, putting photos on Ebay was not as easy as now. The photo had to be put on a server and then transferred onto Ebay. Sometimes my photos would go into the wrong listing and it was impossible to match the right photo with the listing. Now photos can be uploaded right from your computer into your Ebay listing. It’s quick and easy.

I suggest working with a digital camera. You don’t need a very expensive camera—the cheaper cameras are actually better since they have automatic settings that make all the adjustments for you. You just point and shoot. BUT the camera you choose must have a macro lens for those good close-up pictures. Ebay also sizes all photos for you now. This eliminates listings that take forever to pull up. A listing that takes longer than about 5 seconds longer to load will never work on Ebay. And always take low-resolution photos for use on the Internet.

A successful Ebayer always has clear and accurate photos. The photos don’t have to be works of art but just clear and with true colors. We never had anyone return an item because it wasn’t what they wanted. Although there has been a lot of discussion about scanning jewelry, I was never able to scan jewelry--especially three-dimensional jewelry--with any luck.

What Would You Do If You Received BULK ORDER for your handcrafts?

Craft business is exciting and challenging at the same time. As a businessman, I enter this craft business to make reasonable profits that will supplement my income. However, I found that, as a wirename artist, I also want to share this crafts with people even without considering the cost Or to sell it at the cost price.

Setting a price for my wirename keychain is one of the hardest things to do in this craft business. I certainly find this difficult when people order my key chains in a bulk.Never before in my life as a wirename artist, someone ordered 500+ keychain. I am thankful but at the same time I am challenged as I am the sole wirename crafters in my 'small home-based company':-)I, me and myself.Looks like I really need to train someone to Bend the Wire Name Keychain.

You know what, I think I will get my ebook done a.s.a.p where I will write down about wirename, about how to start a home based craft business offline and online, about how to look for good supplier, tools and equipment (this wirename business doesn't need expensive tools), tutorials on how to bend the letters and the insiders tips for beginners. Wow, lot's of things to be done. But I think that I want to write it in Bahasa Malaysia. So that I can use it to train people and who knows that I will use it to teach a wirename class. Charged them some fees and provide the tools that they can bring. And this will lead me to become a supplier? hmm...I think that I am not interested to become a craft supplier for wirename arts.

What will you do if some ordered your handcrafts in a bulk?

Recently, I received 500 hundreds over orders for my wirename keychain. Yeah, you guess it rightly..Valentine's day is coming and people are looking for some unique and cheap personalized gifts. Wah..it's a special session for couples. As for me, I am one that thinks that this Valentine's day is just like other day. Nothing special:-).Sorry:-) But I really think as such.

For me, 'valentine's day' is a daily thing. We MUST do it on a daily basis.We don't wait for 14th February to say 'I LOVE YOU'.What about the rest of the 364days? Don't we all want to express The CONTENTS hearts to our loved ones?

Recently, I read the bible about LOVE. The bible is full of LOVE.Love is a way of Life. I try to bend my wirename with God's love in my heart. Put so much passion into it because each wirename keychain is special just like the person receiving it. None of my wirename are the same, though it looks similar but each wirename has it's own uniqeness. It depends on the emotions and the expressions of my heart.

Wow. Lot's of things to learn. I am a creative person. I play the guitar,bass, piano, drums and bass, and I sing,and recently I picked up wirenames. This craft helps me to express myself in a unique way and because there are only a few who 'bend names' in Kota Kinabalu, I managed to make some money to supplement my income. Little by little, I am getting things in order..learning to maximize profits and minimizing my cost. Learning many ways(paid or free) to promote my wirename. I found that online marketing is more effective and I can reach more people from all over the world. Next, I need to learn about how to package and send to everyone worldwide.

Wire art exhibition in South Africa

Artists in South Africa were invited to create monumental works of wire for a project called This Is My Cape Town.

The exhibition in the country's coastal city shows off their skills as well as the versatility of their chosen medium - wire.

The works illustrate the artists' interpretations of what the city means to them.

Abraham Tapera's intricately detailed work shows Cape Town's famous landmark, Table Mountain towering high above the city.

On the streets
Artist Willard Musarurwa threaded beads onto wire to create his larger-than-life Cape Minstrel.

His beaded wire figure is inspired by the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, usually in January, when thousands dress up and take to the streets.

Willard started out making and selling small wire bicycles on the streets. Even then, he applied his commercial skills in setting up his wire craft business, Feeling African.

He got his first big break in 2004 after entering a competition.

Genius
Wire artist Masimba Jefta Mwazha stands beside his monumental chicken-wire sculpture of former president Nelson Mandela called, Madiba's ground.
Jefta left Johannesburg, years ago, for Cape Town, selling wire craft for his bread and butter. Now his work is exhibited in Cape Town's 34 Long Street Gallery, alongside other well-known sculptures.

Jefta dreams of being acknowledged as the chicken-mesh wire genius of the world.

Woven wire
Wire artist Herbert Suzha named his enormous wired Table Mountain, Cape Contours. It is a uniquely woven wire sculpture with linear structures.
He admits to being "a hard working and cool guy". Herbert learnt the skill of wire art from watching friends.

Cape Contours will be auctioned on 7 November 2007 at Cape Town's Table Bay Hotel, alongside the other wire art works. Proceeds will go to the artists and towards developing the Cape's wire art sector.

Major motivation
Realizing that wood carving was not his ideal channel of expression, Tawanda Dengedza tried his hand at wire craft. He leant a lot from watching other wire artists at work. An order for 20 wire bicycles from a passing tourist launched his career.
Wire art is all he does now. Tawanda's work entitled, Cape-Scape, along with the others can be seen at Cape Town's Victoria and Albert Waterfront.

WHILE much of the rest of the retailing industry faltered, art-and-crafts retailers enjoyed double-digit sales gains last fall, and their shares moved up as well.

Crafts are not recession-proof, but stores have been busy for the three retailers most widely recommended by analysts -- Michaels Stores, based in Irving, Tex.; A. C. Moore Arts and Crafts of Blackwood, N.J.; and Jo-Ann Stores of Hudson, Ohio.

The stores, which sell beads, supplies for scrapbooks, artificial flowers, picture frames and many other products favored by hobbyists, resemble Bed, Bath and Beyond stores in size and layout: they have racetrack floor plans that lead customers along an aisle that circles the store, with merchandise in central and perimeter areas. The average shopper spends $18 each visit, said Laura Richardson, an analyst at Adams, Harkness & Hill, an investment firm in Boston.

Sales appear to have been bolstered by the stay-at-home trend that followed the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. For the third quarter, sales grew 16 percent at Michaels, 25 percent at A. C. Moore and 14 percent at Jo-Ann, compared with the period a year earlier. At A. C. Moore, the only chain to report on the fourth quarter, sales increased 31.5 percent compared with the previous year.

Michaels Stores, with 840 stores in 48 states, including its Aaron Brothers art supply subsidiary, is a favorite among analysts. Its shareholders have been rewarded with 30 percent growth in annual earnings per share, on average, since 1997, and share prices, while fluctuating, have increased more than 400 percent.

''In the last four years, we've performed with the best of retail,'' the chief executive, R. Michael Rouleau, said. ''Yet our stock is undervalued; we should be valued like a Lowe's or Home Depot.'' Ms. Richardson agreed, citing price-to-earnings ratios of 35 for Lowe's, 40 for Home Depot and a mere 22 for Michaels.

Mark Mandel, an analyst at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in New York, said that Michaels plans to open 75 stores a year for the next four to five years, and that it is moving upscale in ambience and upgrading its inventory management system. ''It's a long turnaround story,'' he said, starting in 1996, when Mr. Rouleau joined the company.

But Michaels has had significant problems. In 1998, it was named one of America's worst-governed companies by the California Public Employees' Retirement System, or Calpers, the huge pension fund. It said the board was dominated by the family of the chairman, Sam Wyly, a Texas billionaire -- four of five directors were relatives. The family's control of a compensation committee led to ''golden parachutes for directors and repricing of stock options to protect them from loss during Michaels' less-stellar years,'' Calpers said three years ago.

In July, changes were made to bolster the accountability of the Michaels board. That occurred during an unsuccessful proxy fight by Mr. Wyly for control of Computer Associates International of Islandia, N.Y., in which he said that company's management had not been accountable to shareholders. ''He was a man in a glass house who shouldn't throw stones,'' said William R. Armstrong, an analyst at C. L. King & Associates, a brokerage firm in Albany.

Sam Wyly stepped down as chairman, switching places with his brother, Charles J. Wyly Jr. Today, they are the only family members on the board. Calpers sees significant improvements at Michaels. ''Has Sam Wyly reformed? My opinion is yes,'' said Ted White, the director for corporate governance at Calpers.

Mr. Wyly would not comment directly, but Eric Andrus, a company spokesman, said: ''Michaels is now a model of good corporate governance practices, shareholder accountability and outstanding management team performance.''

The stock, which climbed 170 percent last year, closed on Friday at $30.14. Mr. Armstrong has a $38 price target on the stock for the next 12 months, and Mr. Mandel said he expects 23 percent growth in earnings per share each year over the next five years.

For Craft Sales, the Recession Is a Help

SAN FRANCISCO — Feeling the pinch of the economic downturn, some holiday gift-givers are saving money this year by making their own presents or — for those who lack the time or talent — buying handmade gifts from others.

Craft stores, from giant chains like Michaels Stores to small scrapbook supply shops, are reporting that sales are higher compared with the last holiday season, and online marketplaces for handmade goods, like Etsy, are seeing a boom in listings and transactions.

Sales at Scrap, a craft supply store in Portland, Ore., were up 33 percent in November compared with the year before. The shop’s customers have made a menorah out of yellow plastic bottle caps, Christmas tree ornaments from wood samples and calendars from fabric and paper collages, according to Sarah Dyer, the manager.

“A lot of people are doing a do-it-yourself Christmas, because of the economic downturn but also wanting to make their lives more sustainable, making stuff as opposed to buying more stuff,” she said.

The boom in crafts and related supplies contrasts with poor results for traditional retailers, like electronics retailers and department stores. The nation’s overall retail sales in November fell 7.4 percent from the year before, according to the Commerce Department.

The craft sector, which has about $5.9 billion in annual revenue, is “operating in its own little niche,” said George Van Horn, a senior analyst at IBISWorld, a research firm. “The number of establishments is growing.”

Last year, 42 million households gave handmade gifts, according to the Craft & Hobby Association, a trade group, and that number is expected to increase greatly this year, its spokesman, Victor Domine, said.

“Across the country, people are crafting more,” he said. “With the recession, people are looking for ways to save money, and doctors are recommending it as a major form of stress relief.”

Elizabeth Ludington, a 25-year-old paralegal in Rochester, N.Y., is one of those who chose a do-it-yourself Christmas. She works for a nonprofit legal aid group that she fears could suffer from a downturn in grants. “I looked at my bank account and budget and realized I didn’t have a lot of cash,” she said.

She usually spends about $20 on each of 10 friends and relatives for stationery, bath products or spa gift certificates. This year, she is stitching cable-knit coffee sleeves to use instead of the cardboard ones at coffee shops. They will cost her $1 each to make and an hour of her time after work while she watches TV at night.

“I wanted something that was affordable but still meaningful and kind of fun,” she said.

Michaels Stores, the chain of craft retailers owned by the Blackstone Group and Bain Capital, hopes that a holiday spike in sales will make up for weak results earlier in the year. For the quarter that ended Nov. 1, the company reported a net loss of $20 million and a decrease of 6.5 percent in same-store sales. But in November and December, Michaels’ 1,014 stores have had sharp increases in traffic and transactions for small-ticket craft supplies, said Brian C. Cornell, the company’s chief executive.

Michaels does not release monthly sales data, and Mr. Cornell declined to discuss specific numbers. However, he said that premade holiday and home decorations, which tend to be more expensive, are not selling well. Less expensive craft supplies, which generally account for 41 percent of revenue, are moving briskly, and sales have been particularly strong for supplies used to make jewelry, baked goods, scrapbooks and decorated clothing.

Michaels has shifted its marketing strategy to take advantage of the trend. The company created an advertising campaign called “Endless Creativity, Endless Savings” to market craft supplies for handmade gifts. It started a Web site, Where Creativity Happens, with videos on how to make gifts like picture frames and candles, and it held free weekly in-store workshops.

“We’re certainly seeing much better results than we would have anticipated,” Mr. Cornell said. “There’s a much greater interest right now in how you decorate your home and create your own gifts yourself.”

Jo-Ann Stores, the craft supply leader with a 19 percent market share, has had a similar pattern. Though same-store sales fell 1.5 percent in the quarter ending Nov. 1, sales of sewing and craft supplies, which account for half of revenue, were stable that quarter and have climbed this quarter, said Lisa Greb, a Jo-Ann spokeswoman.

Pada awal saya belajar 'seni dawai nama ini', saya banyak surf di internet mencari gambar-gambar yang boleh saya dapati secara percuma dan saya cuba 'tiru' bagaimana mereka membengkokkan dawai. Orang kata "imitation is the greatest form of flattery"

Memang ada juga ebook dan dvd yang di jual di dalam internet tetapi harganya sangatlah mahal bagi saya yang baru hendak memulakan perniagaan kraftangan seni dawai saya secara online pada masa itu. Oleh itu, setelah mengambil kira start-up kos yang mahal kalau membeli dvd ity, saya membuat keputusan untuk 'go ahead' dengan perniagaan ini dengan cara 'trial and error'.

A few days ago, I found a forum about wirename at www.beadandbutton.com. It was an interesting read.

Someone asked this question in forum for beading.

what is the best way to learn how to bend wirename?

Could someone at least answer these 2 questions?
1. What kind of wire..Half hard, hard, round square, and what gauge?
2. Which pliers (and cutters) are best.

I've played with it but haven't officially had a course. I use 20 gauge dead soft and you can use either round or square. The idea is to loop the names, not bend them. They look better that way. I just use a small pair of chain nose to do the job and any cutter that is within reach. Just look online for ideas as to how to do the more difficult letters. Do a google image search for "wire name".

Wire names can be done with round wire but most of the old time wire workers used square wire, preferably open seam square gold filled wire. The square wire folds back on itself better than round wire and twists well to make a rope look brace at the bottom of wire names. GF wire looks nice much longer than sterling.

It can be done with dead soft, but again, the old work was done with hard wire, often not just half hard but full hard wire. The harder the wire the less likely to be unbent and the better spring for the pin back if you are making name pins. 21 gauge is common, some use 22 or 20. 24 can be used for earrings.

I actually started in the jewelry business making name pins back in 1965. I've made thousands of them from hard GF wire. Haven't made any for a couple of years, though.

Use the best round nose pliers you can afford (Lindstrom?) and good flush cutting diagonal top cutters (useful for making the diagonal sharp point at the end of the pin stem.)

Depends on your skill level and strength. Softer, smaller is easier to bend but not as sturdy.

If you look at the folks on the fair & crafts show circuit who are making these names for a living you'll find hard temper 21gauge square wire is very common. But it's not the only thing you can use.

When I started the circuit each year I had to put band-aids on the palm of my hand and on a couple of fingers until I built back the calluses.

I have Preston's wire name package, and love it! Make sure it's something you really want to pursue. Maybe practice from the information from some of the sites others have shared.

I have no complaints at all with the name writing package I purchased. Possibilities are endless with names or initials. They can be fancy or just plain. I have customers who prefer just initials inside a circle or heart, others like their first name. Wire name writing is so fun, and it doesn't just have to be names. I've done several web sites, and businesses in wire for give-a-ways at Chamber Mixers.

You can make $$$ and it doesn't take a lot of wire to do so.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but I get so excited when it comes to wire names.

I got so excited, I forgot to answer your questions on wire. I like 24 and 21 half hard. For initials I use 20g. I work harden the wire by pulling it through my polishing cloth. Round wire is my favorite to use. Square is hard at first because it wants to twist a bit, but as you practice, it's pretty easy. I love to use square and twist it in my wire twister, it gives the wire sort of a diamond looking cut.

Practice with brass and copper, then move up to gold filled and sterling.

Hi,
Yesterday after I made the above post, I decided to contact the NameBender.com owner and ask a few questions. Like...how many pages is his book, does it show all the letters of the alphabet, how detailed are his instructions, and a few more....

I received his response this morning and wow, there actually is a person who responded...no customer service person:

The ebook is 74 pages. It includes all the Letters (Capital and lower case with diagrams) as well as two examples of making a complete name, and other techniques and tips.

Attached is a pdf of the lower case letter "t". The text uses techniques described earlier in the manual, so don't worry if you don't understand some of the techniques, they are explained.

The name bending Package is a bit cheaper than Preston's, and a hard copy of the ebook might be helpful to some. I like the DVD's and of course if you purchase the package deal at Andy the Name Benders site, you would have both. From looking at his site, his style is similar to Preston's. I of course would not purchase another series on bending names because I have Preston's and like the style.

Hi,

I also have Preston's name writing package. I found it difficult to watch and at the same time create the letters, stopping the dvd and then restarting and stopping, etc.

The print ebook would be easier for me with it sitting on my desk, lap or tray, practicing the creation of the letters.

I did a massive search for others who have tutorials on this art, spent more time than I would want to mention in research. I also have the Wire Artist's Magazine issues with all the letters. They are in so many issues, not all in one place.

I guess it depends on how you learn...by doing, seeing, reading. We learn differently and I just offered this as another option.

Wirenut, where are you located? Do you remember Preston's bulletin board? Do you have a website? What type of wire name pieces have you done? I'd love to see your creations.

No web site yet but working slowly on one. When I get a camera, I'll show you some pics.

I make more initials than names, and as I said in a post earlier, I've done quiet a few for businesses and web sites for Chamber Mixers. My day job allows me to attend quiet a few around town events and is a good place to been seen.

In the other post, I intended to mention I bought my Name Kit from Preston when he first introduced it. Paid $199. And yes I remember Preston's board. It didn't last too long after I found it because a few bad apples went to another board that I won't mention and blasted him after all the help he had given them...so he closed his board. Funny thing, that very board had a lot of trouble and is now closed! The supply store is still open, though.

I remember you I believe wrote a 'how to sell on eBay' book. Are you selling on eBay?I'm from Texas.I forgot to add. When I started watching Preston's DVD's, After he showed how to do a name. I stopped and made that name without watching. This really helped me learn and make lots of mistakes. I have a cigar box full of some really funny looking names :-)

Yes, I'm still selling on eBay under many different usernames. Etsy, too.

I, too, remember the board, and how active it was. It seemed fast and furious at times, helpful as this board is, and I agree, that Preston helped alot of us. I am a gold member on his site for purchasing products, and I was interviewed for his ebook by him, via the telephone. We spoke at length.

I never attended any of his boot camps, though I heard they were great. The bead shop owner here on the Cape, attended and does beautiful wire wrapping, Preston style.

How big are the intials you do? Small for pendants, or larger like a quarter or half dollar? If you don't mind sharing...what do you sell them for? Since there are not too many people doing them, it might be helpful for us to know what your price point is, and how much wire is used in creating an inital letter?

I have no clue how much wire you would need to start with to do a name. Years ago, I bought my name done in gold wire at a fair. Still have it and it looks great!

I've never attended a boot camp either, but a friend of mine did and it was an experience of a lifetime for her. According to her, Preston and Mary rolled out the 'Red Carpet.'

I too have spoke to both of them on the phone and it's such fun. They are such regular folks, and most of the conversations were not business oriented, just regular talk.

Anywho, I sometimes think people who are not in business for themselves, don't realize all the work involved, not to mention being on call 24/7.

Gosh your pricing question is a bit hard to answer, but I'll try. It all depends on wire used, size and time. I'm not much for a 'stand-a-lone' initial. Most of mine go in a circle, heart, square, diamond, shaped frame. I never have cared for 'jump ring' type bails, so I make the frames with a wrapped bail. Just my personal preference.

Preston teaches making the names as small as possible, however mine are all different sizes from 1/2 in. to 1-2 inches. Again this depends on the frame I display it in and the type of wire, gold filled being on the high end. Then there's beads, birthstones and trinkets, that are added to some designs.

I'm by no means hedging your pricing question, but my prices vary so much. For something really simple, $15. Fancy $45 and up. Hope this makes sense.
As for how much wire to make an initial or name, I try to visualize the twist and folding over of the wires, and also depends on that particular initial or name. The best example I guess would be the letter 'A' 1/2in. would probably use 5in. leaving enough of a tail on each end to attach to the frame.

This is just a ballpark figure for Pendants only. Earrings, bracelets, rings, and home decor are another ball of wax...wire :-)

I'll try to help all I can, and hope some of this makes sense.

Does Preston still do boot camps? I just purchased his small business program and would really like to do whatever I can to improve my skills at this art.

I don't think I have ever been as serious as I am about this skill and would like to know more about it.
